OUR CANOE DESIGNS & PLANS

(last up dated 16/05/09)

All our canoe designs are commissions from clients with specific requirements in mind - you should be able to find one in our catalogue which closely meets your requirements - but if not, our YachtCAD system is able to quickly make modifications (change style, dimensions, number of planks etc, etc).
Most of our canoes are built using the stitch and tape (tack and tape) method and some by the Cedar strip plank method - see the navigation links at the top left hand of this page for more details and examples of these methods of construction.

NEW We have launched a new site dedicated to canoes and kayaks - go to www.makeacanoe.com where you will find the full range of SFDesign canoes and kayaks plus many more builder's photos of our canoes and  sections specifically on strip planked and stitch and tape canoe construction   - you can order canoe and kayak plans from this site or the makeacanoe site but you will find a lot more info about our canoes on the new site including a very useful FAQ's page on canoe building (costs, building times etc) and a page on canoe "bits and pieces" - ie. rudders, seats, leeboards, rigs etc.

User Group/Forum for Selway Fisher Canoe Builders & Users
This is a new Group started 04/09/06 for those building our canoe designs - this will be a group/forum to exchange ideas on construction and to share photos of the canoes you are building and the treks that you have undertaken with them.
The Canoe User Group/Forum is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SFDesigncanoebuilders  - when you link to it, press the "Join" link if you want to join.
To help you in your choice of open canoe see our new page - Choosing an Open Canoe

CANOE CATALOGUE AND MANUAL

CATALOGUE OF CANOE DESIGNS

An A4 sized catalogue with 17 pages describing all 38 of our canoe designs which range in size from 10' to 40'. Also enclosed is an article on the construction of one of our Christine designs. As well as a number of open canoes for family use, the catalogue includes some particular canoe designs for the enthusiast - these include a fast open canoe designed specifically for the Devizes-Westminster race, a 40' multi-paddler canoe which is put together in boltable sections and which has been used for Dragon boat training and our JC which has a sliding seat and is a trainer for the IC racing canoe.

A MANUAL OF PLY/EPOXY CANOE CONSTRUCTION

Ply/Epoxy and stitch and tape construction is fun because, with little financial outlay, you can be on the water very quickly in a boat that you have created yourself over a period of only 25 hours or so, using basic domestic facilities. Also included is a chapter on CONVERTING YOUR OWN CANOE TO SAIL with details of RUDDER and LEEBOARD requirements and HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN SIMPLE SAILS. This manual is useful to those who already own a fibreglass or ply canoe and who may be thinking of doing some canoe sailing. Over 70 illustrations plus a large detailed drawing of a typical sail plan. Now also includes full plans and details for simple 12' & 16' Ranger canoe (in both open and decked versions).
