LARGER CATAMARANS
DESIGNS & PLANS

Study Plans are available for these designs - remember a study plan gives you more details and a wood materials list usually on two A1 sheets, so that you can cost out a project before ordering the full plans. When you order the full construction plans you do not need to order the study plan as well, as all the study details are on the full plans.

We have just 3 designs - there are study plans (A1 sheets with sections, construction details and a wood materials list, for most of these designs - for further information please see the price list on the main page.

Note - In the particulars for each design, the dry weight is given for guidance only and will vary depending on the grade/density of plywood and solid wood used - different thicknesses of ply are often used by builders and the dry weight figure is based on the thinnest ply specified.
Also the Guidance Use comments are given in good faith and are based on feedback from previous builders etc and based on standard weight adults - contact us if you want further clarification before ordering/building.

CAT 254

Cat 254

Cat 254

This is the latest racing version of the CAT 25 and embodies a long waterline hull with a light weight construction using tortured ply. The pre-shaped sides are simply stitched to the bottom and epoxied at a set angle. The 6mm sides are then pulled up producing a round sectional shape. This gives a very light but stiff hull which simply uses bunk tops and shelves as longitudinal stiffening. Four berths can be fitted into the hulls along with basic cooking and toilet facilities to comply with the MOCRA Rules.  Apart from being a racing catarmaran the CAT 254 is also an ideal platform for fast cruising. LOA 26’3’’ (8.00m); Beam O.A. 16’9’’ (5.1m); Beam (Hull) 3’6’’ (1.07m); 1’9’’ (0.53m); Sail Area 375 sq.ft (34.5 sq.m.); Disp. Approx 1600 lbs. (725 kg.)

CAT 40

The CAT 40 is a comfortable cruising catamaran using the latest thoughts on wide bodied hulls enabling much more accommodation than usual on a catamaran of this length. The standard arrangement has 8 dedicated berths (including 3 doubles) with the ability to sleep many more.  There are 2 wc’s and a large galley and deck saloon along with plenty of deep stowage space, a large cockpit and inside and outside steering positions. Construction is based upon pre-shaped ply bulkheads and frames being slotted onto the ply hogs/stems so preforming the shape of the hulls accurately without the need for lofting. Obviously on such a capacious boat, there is much scope for alteration both in layout and in the basic use of the boat. She could for instance, be used purely as a motor yacht providing a very stable platform for diving etc. LOA 40’; Beam O.A. 25’; Beam (Hull) 7’3’’; Draft 3’7’’; Displ 8 tons; Sail Area 880 sq.ft.
